Airport Development Project June 2024

Airport Development Project June 2024

FOREWORD

New air traffic records have been set at the Philip Goldson International Airport in the
first quarter of 2024 as Belize emerges as one of the fastest growing destinations in the
region, reflecting the inherent clear-cut affirmation of significant and enduring brand
appeal and trust.

Underscoring the irrefutable link between adequacy of infrastructure and quality of
service, earthworks associated with the expanded apron and the new eastern taxiway
are well underway. Indeed, preparations for the econocrete pavement layer on the apron
are in progress and the construction of the taxiway concrete culvert is ongoing. The
construction of new perimeter fencing and an extension of the existing perimeter road
incorporate the ever-conscious primary backdrop of aerodrome safety and stakeholder
security.

Accelerating the plans for the construction of the terminal building, our consulting
engineer Mr. Douglas Walker delivered drawings and tender documents to representatives
of contractors on Monday, 27th May 2024. Thus, in keeping pace with specific project
timelines, preparations are now being finalized by Management to commence expansion
of the airport terminal building within the current fiscal period.

It is said that death leaves a sting no one can heal and love leaves a memory no one
can steal. Mrs. Edna L. Dawson, mother of Robert Dawson, died on 9th March 2024, Mr.
Clinton Rhaburn, father of employees Troy Rhaburn and Deon Bailey, passed on 29th May
2024, and aviation pioneer Mr. John M. Searle was laid to rest on Friday, 7th June 2024.
As we recall with profound gratitude, we’ve been truly blessed, manifold, to have this
lady and these gentlemen in our lives, shaping and sharing their notable legacies for the
betterment of community and country. As Cicero writes, “the life given us by nature is
short, but the memory of a life well spent is eternal.”

We are grateful for the strategic partnerships which progressively improve and increase
our operations and efficiencies, support our growing workforce and facilitate collaboration
in sharing knowledge, experiences and resources through myriad platforms. Ultimately,
our common efforts underpin the shared aim of surpassing expectations.

This booklet highlights some of our initiatives in the past five months. We welcome your
ideas on ways to make the P.G.I.A. an even more successful airport.
