VACANCY: DUTY MANAGER
The Duty Manager is responsible for the supervision of all airside, groundside and Air Port Terminal Building operations of the Philip Goldson International Airport in accordance with established national and international policies and procedures.
DUTIES:
- Reports to the Manager of Operations.
- Oversees the daily activities at the Philip Goldson International Airport, assuring regulations are followed, safety is maintained and work is completed on time.
- Supervises, through subordinates, the maintenance, technical and professional staff in carrying out their prescribed functions.
- Serves as the primary contact with airport employees at all levels of management including public officials, station managers, tenants, Air Traffic
- Control, ramp and terminal employees in enforcing airport policies and building networks of cooperation across the airport community and in facilitating effective resolution.
- Works to ensure that all passengers, pilots, regulatory agencies and staff are safe by supervising terminal activities.
- Maintains constant awareness of conditions, activities and changing requirements affecting the P.G.I.A. and the traveling public.
- Completes and reviews all reports, forms and logs pertaining to operational activities, including runways, taxiways, surface conditions, safety areas, and FOD removal.
- Monitors and manages safety management system, wildlife management controls, compliance with Belize Department of Civil Aviation regulations, and adherence to international aviation protocols.
- Manages emergency situations, early and late operations, participates with Emergency Coordinating Centre as required and adheres to proper emergency call-out procedures.
- Discharges any other duties assigned by the Manager of Operations.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in business, airport or aviation management or closely related field and at least three years of direct experience in airport administration. Required competencies include excellent oral and written communication, strong decision-making skills.
Knowledge and compliance with national and international aviation regulations, laws and guidelines, good work ethic and organizational skills.

VACANCY: APRON SUPERVISOR
The Apron Supervisor reports to the Manager of Operations and is tasked with applying the rules and regulations pertaining to airside operations at the P.G.I.A. in accordance with I.C.A.O. guidelines and the Belize Civil Aviation Regulations.
DUTIES:
- Familiarizes himself with those sections related to Apron Management contained in the P.G.I.A. Aerodrome Operations Manual: Annex 2 which includes Part 5, Apron Management; OPM 2-3, Procedures for the Operation of Aerodrome Vehicles; OPM 2-12 to 2-16; and Appendix 8 among others.
- Monitors customer safety during boarding and deplaning and ensures passengers are marshalled to and from aircraft.
- Controls all boarding gates and monitors the movement of aircraft traffic on and within the vicinity of the airport terminal apron according to established procedures and policies in order to prevent conflicts and minimize delays.
- Coordinates unscheduled/private and military flights with Ground Handler and Air Traffic Control for safe parking
- Coordinates with ATC, Ground Handler/ Airlines for the usage of parking stands.
- Monitors cargo operations.
- Manages hazards on the apron to ensure the health and safety of staff working airside.
- Supervises and coordinates the activities of ground crew in the loading, unloading, securing, and staging of aircraft cargo or baggage.
- Communicates with flight crew personnel and other ground personnel as well as evaluates information and airside activity to determine whether events or processes comply with regulations or standards.
- Provides guidance and direction in setting and monitoring performance standards, FOD management and monitoring of vehicles, mechanized devices or equipment on the airside.
- Documents, records and maintains information in written or electronic form on airside activities and safety issues as they arise.
- Participates in the inspection and investigation of accidents or incidents and initiates and implements necessary corrective actions.
- Completes a Daily Status Report on the apron and ensures deficiencies are promptly addressed.
- Reports any fuel or oil spills and ensures proper cleanup is conducted.
- Monitors apron cleaning and sweeping.
- Monitors speeding of ramp equipment on the airside and ensures usage of obstruction lights.
- Conducts inspection of ramp equipment and safe drivers practice.
- Ensures all fueling procedure are adhered to.
- Ensures all persons on the airside are fitted with required PPE and conducts monthly inspection of equipment used.
- Ensures proper parking procedure for refuellers and ramp equipment to ensure emergency exit provided.
- Ensures users adhere to weather advisory such as lighting risk procedures.
- Attends Runway Safety Team Committee, Safety Management Team Committee and Security and Facilitation Committee meetings and participates in conducting risk assessment.
- Acquaints himself with the P.G.I.A.’s Airport Emergency Plan.
- Handles complaints, settles disputes and resolves grievances and conflicts that may arise on the apron.
- Works closely and coordinates responsibilities with the Management Team.
Qualifications:
A High School Diploma or equivalent experience in airport aviation management or closely related field and at least three years of direct experience in airport administration. Required competencies include excellent oral and written communication, strong decision-making skills and submission of written reports.
Is familiar with I.C.A.O. Annexes, particularly Annex 2, knowledgeable with Belize Civil Aviation Regulations, and has training in ramp safety.
