5 Belize Waterfalls to Visit During the Green Season
When the rainy season rolls around, tropical countries like Belize come alive. Refreshing showers rejuvenate the forests, create brief breaks from the heat, and draw out wildlife from all corners. No wonder they call it the Green Season! The rains also breathe life into waterfalls (and rivers) that may have dwindled during the dry season, making for some of the most scenic adventures. If you’re planning to travel to Belize during this time of year, here are five waterfalls you should definitely visit.
Big Rock Falls
Big Rock Falls is picturesque year round, but even more so during the Green Season. This 150-foot cascade is found inside the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve and is a great spot for swimming or picnicking. During the rainy season, the cascade of water intensifies, turning Big Rock Falls into a postcard worthy spot that’s perfect for a photo-op. Combine a visit to this Belize waterfall with swiming at Rio On Pools or exploring Rio Frio Cave.

Antelope Falls
One of the most popular waterfalls inside the Mayflower Bocawina National Park, Antelope Falls is situated in the heart of nature. When visiting this Belize waterfall, enjoy an invigorating hike followed by a calm and refreshing swim beside a gentle cascade. If you’re looking for an extra thrill, though, ask about rappelling down the upper section of the waterfall. It’s a truly bucketlist worthy experience!
Maya King Waterfall
One of the most accessible waterfalls in Belize, the Maya King Waterfall is found in Belize’s Stann Creek District—less than an hour away from the Placencia Peninsula. Getting there doesn’t require much. In fact, visitors can drive directly up to the waterfall, no hike needed! Maya King is a popular spot among families, offering a upper and lower section, both with refreshing pools to swim in.

Davis Falls
Davis Falls is a hidden gem in southern Belize, but one that’s worth the adventure. At 500 feet tall, it’s the second tallest waterfall in Belize. This remote waterfall, found in the lush rainforests of the Stann Creek District, is accessible via a scenic 8-mile tractor ride followed by a 30-minute hike. Sitting at its base is a deep pool of crystal clear water that’s perfect for a swim.
Billy Barquedier Waterfall
Found just off the Hummingbird Highway, Billy Barquedier National Park is a nature lover’s playground, with over 1,600 acres of lush forest and miles of hiking trails. One of those trails leads to the Billy Barquedier Waterfall. It’s a quick walk to this Belize waterfall. Trek for about 15 minutes through the jungle and along a creek before arriving at an inviting pool of freshwater that’s rimmed by lush greenery.
