PRESS RELEASE: ISSUE OF AERODROME CERTIFICATE FOR THE PHILIP GOLDSON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

BELIZE CITY: FEBRUARY 14, 2025

Today, the Belize Department of Civil Aviation (B.D.C.A.) issues an Aerodrome Certificate for the Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (P.G.I.A.). The Aerodrome Certificate is issued in compliance with regulations implemented in accordance with the Belize Civil Aviation Act and following standards and recommended practices developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (I.C.A.O.).

This significant occasion comes as a result of a certification process which occurred over 18 months of intense collaboration, inspection, and review between inspectors of the B.D.C.A. and technical experts at the Belize Airport Concession Company (B.A.C.C.).

The certification process has resulted in significant improvements in aerodrome safety and security at the P.G.I.A., including establishment of various operational safety and security Committees, improved lighting and signage, improved apron supervision, extensive training at all levels and major capital investments in infrastructure and equipment for increased capacity and passenger comfort, among many others.

Most significantly, the 17 crash, fire and rescue officers at the P.G.I.A. have recently received National Fire & Protection Association (N.F.P.A.) 1003 Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting and Strategies & Tactics for Aviation Incidents training that qualifies them amongst a cadre of only 45,000 aerodrome firefighters worldwide.

The certification process is the assurance of the Belize Department of Civil Aviation of safer, more secure and improved airport operations at the P.G.I.A., and acknowledging to the world that B.A.C.C. is implementing aviation- related processes that are in compliance with aviation best practices that meet international standards.

The certification process is a collective commitment for further development of air transport connectivity to Belize.
