Airport Development Project #31

Airport Development Project #31

FOREWORD

The Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport is Central America’s busiest aerodrome! Last year, without disruption or accident, we accommodated just under 1,000,000 international and domestic passenger movements on 31,266 flights. These vital indicators aren’t just nice bullet points. Each agency’s efforts have a lasting impact on our capacity, reputation, efficiency, and above all, on the safety of everyone.

Amongst our most treasured occasions is our Annual Employee Awards Ceremony. On Thursday, 6th June 2019, at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza, we recognized, thanked and celebrated our devoted staff. As well, we honored AA’s
Country Manager, Mr. Luis Alpuche, Tropic Air’s Station Manager, Mr. Marvin Castillo and United Airlines’ Lead Customer Service Officer, Ms. Anna Barber, for exemplary service, customer satisfaction and aviation development, respectively.

Receiving Lifetime Achievement Award was B.A.C.C.’s Senior Duty Manager, Mr. Ian Flowers. We offer both Mr. Flowers and Mr. Mark Sanchez, Security Officer our very best wishes and prayers as they seek medical attention.

I extend quite unsparingly the congratulations of our administration to all members of our staff and other industry colleagues who received recognition and awards, a validation of our daily efforts in the fulfillment of our responsibilities.

Having completed a BZ$20 million improvement project in December, 2017, the Belize Airport Concession Company Limited commenced with a new 14,000 sq. ft., BZ$6 million expansion for improvements to Car Park A, Arrival Hall, Terminal 2 and Departure Hall, with completion scheduled for September, 2020.

On the first Saturday in June of this year, the P.G.I.A. commenced operations from 4:00 a.m. to accommodate American Airlines’ 5:05 a.m. Los Angeles-to-Belize services. This is but one of many instances in which partnership, coordination and cooperation are critical to the rise in the number of visitors and to the identification of new destinations and markets.

Working together with our partners and oversight agencies, our priority is to continue to be responsive to a fast-changing environment involving new regulations, expansion to infrastructure and facilities and the nurturing of a culture
for outstanding service.

Thank you for sharing a few of the many special moments captured in this edition.

With friendship,

Jorge L. Espat
